19 October 2023 – Miss Malaysia Plus World 2023/24 (MPWM) joined forces with Atelier Clinic to host a Women Empowerment Forum & MOU Signing Ceremony. Held at Wyndham Grand Bangsar, this forum is the first of many community initiatives for its upcoming pageant in January. Additionally, the event included the formal MOU signing with platinum sponsor, PhytoScience and main presenter, Atelier Clinic also took place.
Among the distinguished guests were MPWM consultants YM Tengku Dato’ Dr. Hishammuddin Zaizi bin YAM Tengku Bendahara Azman Shah Alhaj, YM Raja Omar Ikram Bin Raja Abdullah Omar, YM Mak Engku Noriza Jamaludin, Puan Nurushama Abdul Hanan, Tourism Malaysia General Manager Dato’ Dr . Ammar Abd. Ghapar, founder of Yeoh Foundation and Miss & Ms Plus World Malaysia consultant Dato’ Sri Matthew Yeoh, Atelier Clinic CEO Dr. Sam Kuan, Phytoscience Sdn Bhd CEO Datuk Willy Toh, renowned actress Mas Anizan and entertainer Dato Chef Zam.
Moderated by Summer & Peach founder Wendy Foo, the forum aimed to spread awareness of the significance of women’s empowerment across various aspects, ranging from business to mental health and family. Speakers such as Datin Lorela Chia, President of the Malaysian Sustainable Supply Chain and Innovation Association, and Dato Dr. Narimah Awin, Gender Health Technical Advisor of the United Nations Population Fund in Malaysia, delved into the topics of diversity and inclusion. The push for destigmatising sex education was discussed in depth, emphasising the importance of embracing diversity, inclusivity, and compassion as vital elements in fostering a more peaceful world.
Megan Tan, the co-organiser of MPWM shared her hopes of minimising society’s negative view towards plus-size women through this pageant. Decades of conventional beauty standards have contributed to insecurity and exclusion of plus-size women all around the world. MPWM hopes to challenge these standards and redefine what ‘beauty’ means, shaping a society more understanding and accepting of all body shapes and sizes.
